In a thrilling showdown, the Henderson boys basketball squad took down rival, Rustin, for the second time this season with a resounding score of 68-42. This latest victory carried even greater significance as it propels the Warriors into the Ches-Mont Final Four against Unionville, the American Division winner. This match-up is scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday at West Chester University.

From the opening tip-off, the Warriors asserted their dominance, maintaining a lead throughout the game. Their relentless defense held the Golden Knights to a dismal 15-for-55 shooting performance from the field.

Connor Fleet led the charge for the Warriors with an impressive 20 points, closely followed by Nyle Ralph-Beyer with 18 points. Ben Malley led the Golden Knights with 16 points in a hard-fought effort.

Despite playing a significant portion of the game without their 6-foot-8 senior center, Nelson Lamizana, due to PIAA eligibility concerns for the upcoming district playoffs, the Warriors showcased their depth and resilience. Lamizana’s brief appearance in the third period, where he contributed nine points and electrifying slam dunks, underscored his impact on the court.

Head coach Jason Ritter acknowledged the potential absence of Lamizana but expressed confidence in his team’s readiness to step up. The Warriors’ staunch defense, coupled with the energy of their home crowd, set the tone for a commanding performance from the outset.

At halftime, the Warriors held a commanding 32-21 lead as the Golden Knights struggled to find their rhythm, shooting just 7-for-28 from the field. Rustin’s leading scorer, Chase Hatton, faced foul trouble early on, limiting his impact on the game.

The third period saw the Warriors further extend their lead, effectively extinguishing any hopes of a Rustin comeback. Ralph-Beyer’s inside scoring propelled the Warriors to a 53-29 advantage, while Fleet and Lamizana delivered pivotal baskets to solidify their dominance. Jack Bell and Dylan Delucia sealed the victory for the Warriors by scoring consecutive baskets late in the third period, securing their lead.

As the game drew to a close, Henderson capitalized on the opportunity to give valuable playing time to bench players. Dylan Delucia, in particular, seized the moment, contributing seven points and showcasing his readiness for increased varsity minutes.

With eyes set on clinching the Ches-Mont title, the Warriors remain focused and unified in their pursuit of the CHIP.
